‘Expats x Migrants‘ invites people to question the distinction made between migrants and expats. While the term ‘expat’ is entangled with assumptions of privilege and class, the label ‘migrant’ somehow connotes something lesser, even though both groups consist of people who moved away from their country of origin.
The project will consist of an expert panel discussion as well as an online and physical photo exhibition.
We are looking for 20 volunteers to represent the diversity within Maastricht’s international working community. The main requirement is that you self-identify either as expat or migrant.
Photography will most likely be planned on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st August 2021. The photo shoot wil take approximately 30 minutes. Experience is not required.
The project is financed with a ‘Diversity and Inclusion Grant’ from the Maastricht University and will be implemented by a diverse team representing five UM faculties in cooperation with the Expat Centre Maastricht Region and photographer Tetsuro Miyazaki, who will be carry photography of the project.
